I finally watched Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters (courtesy of Amazon Instant Video) and was so surprised at how much I loved this movie! My expectations were low(ish) after seeing the trailers; in all honesty, those trailers just made me shake my head. I so didn't want this movie to have a Scary Movie feel to it, and after watching it, I'm thrilled to say that it didn't.
Read Natalie's original review of Blood Sisters here. I had concerns about the casting, dialogue, and fangs (read that post here), but after watching the movie in its entirety, those concerns were put to rest. I accepted Blood Sisters for what it is, and ended up loving it. The casting really was perfect, with Christian, Lissa and Mason being my favorites.
What I liked the most was that this film on the whole did not take itself too seriously. Sure, it was life or death for Rose and Lissa, but the characters accepted, expected and even made light of that. It gave Blood Sisters an unexpected light-heartedness.
I also enjoyed the unexpected humor in Blood Sisters. Rose was funny, and I loved her for it! And oh my word, did Rose have the curves....not necessarily the hips, but definitely the chest. She was true to Richelle Mead's Rose in that way.
But my absolute favorite aspect of Blood Sisters was the chemistry between Dimitri and Rose. It was....ahhhh....so good. I pretty much fell in love with Dimitri as soon as he walked up in that I'm-sexy-and-I-know-it leather duster in Oregon. Yep, it was love at first sight for me. Or, should I say, love at first accent. Any interactions thereafter only served to increase my feelings for him. I may or may not have watched the love charm scene again after I finished the movie. Shhh, I'm not telling. :)
Just when I thought Blood Sisters was going to end on a light-ish note, the cave freaked me the F out! Oh my Strigoi, it was creepy! All in all, I was so pleased with this movie and I'm really looking forward to the next one. I really hope that the funding is there so that this series can continue. I can't wait to see Adrian, Jill, and Eddie next!
