Book Review: Timeless (Timeless #1) by Alexandra Monir

Summary:

When tragedy strikes Michele Windsor’s world, she is forced to uproot her life and move across the country to New York City, to live with the wealthy, aristocratic grandparents she’s never met. In their old Fifth Avenue mansion filled with a century’s worth of family secrets, Michele discovers a diary that hurtles her back in time to the year 1910. There, in the midst of the glamorous Gilded Age, Michele meets the young man with striking blue eyes who has haunted her dreams all her life – a man she always wished was real, but never imagined could actually exist. And she finds herself falling for him, into an otherworldly, time-crossed romance.

Michele is soon leading a double life, struggling to balance her contemporary high school world with her escapes into the past. But when she stumbles upon a terrible discovery, she is propelled on a race through history to save the boy she loves – a quest that will determine the fate of both of their lives.

Review:
I was SOOOO pumped when I got this!!! Time traveling love story??? HECK FREAKIN YES!!!!  I love how Michele travels back in time to the 1910’s and the Roaring twenties!! I haven’t read a lot in that time period (besides Anne of Green Gables, of course). All the beautiful homes and dresses!!! AHHH! (Sooo definitely NOT a boy book) I loved the love story, the setting, and the character development! But I did have some pet peeves…

  1. Michele dreamed about her love interest all her life. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP! “Oh yeah! I dream about the love of my life every day” SAID NO ONE EVER! GAHHHHH I hate that!!!!!
  2. They look the same!!! Pale skin, dark hair, blue eyes!!! I HATE it when authors do that! It’s like they’re related or something! Is it so hard to make them a little different?
  3. Ever heard “Distance makes the heart grow fonder”?  Alexandra Monir hasn’t! Michelle and Phillip were constantly hugging and kissing and crap. At some point I would just think “here we go again” and skim over it.

But before you just skip the rest of the review, let me tell you the good things.
Even though Michelle and Phillip were lovey-dovey, I still LOVED their love story! (what can I say I’m a teenager! Hormones overrule pet peeves!)

WARNING!
SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT!
PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

I liked how she helped her ancestors, (oh the perks of time traveling) how she got to know them and become friends with them. Seriously cool.

I liked how there was a scientific explanation for the time traveling. I hate it when authors don’t explain WHY! (That may just be my Erudite coming out..haha Divergent joke) But she didn’t explain why the key was magic…

CAUTION: REALLY BIG SPOILERS

Okay, so I was super confused at the end. He found another girl; she walked in when Michelle and Phillip meet up after forever. He was all “I’m sorry” and she was all broken hearted. Then he shows up all happy at her school and everything’s hunky dory. And I’m re-reading the page thinking “Did I miss something?” And there were some really big questions that weren’t answered! That drives me BANANAS! (Thank you Gwen for helping me spell that).

Overall I really liked the book. It may seem like I didn’t like it but I did. Most of my negative points were just pet peeves…BUT THEY’RE STILL ANNOYING!  I would read it again.
